IPL 2020: "It's puzzling to see MS Dhoni struggling," says Brian Lara after CSK's loss versus KKR

MS Dhoni failed to finish another game for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2020.

Former West Indies captain Brian Lara is not satisfied with the way MS Dhoni has batted for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) this season. He feels it's time for CSK to change their batting line-up to be successful in rest of the matches after the loss against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

CSK's batting unit hasn't clicked this season when they needed them at crucial stages. The top order has helped them cruise to victory on a couple of times, but when it comes to middle-order doing their job, they have failed badly in four chases.

Super Kings are currently not looking good with just two wins in six matches, something which we don't usually see from the three-time champions. Against KKR, Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav couldn't get going in the death overs which cost them a victory.

“It’s a bit puzzling (Dhoni inability to finish). You feel that he has created that position where he can be flexible with himself but I think he needs to maybe look at some other players,” Lara told Star Sports during a post-match analysis show.

“They have played a couple of games where Dwayne Bravo, an all-rounder, hasn’t had an opportunity to bat. Scoring 58 runs in 10 overs but only losing 10 wickets, something is wrong.

“He is a great finisher, no doubt about that. But things are not going right for him and I believe, some of the other players, look at Jadeja how he batted today, he came in when their chances were very slim. So, something he will have to work on, have steadier stuff.

“They were cruising after 10 overs. You got 90-odd on board. It was unbelievable,” Lara said.

CSK decided to bat Kedar higher than the likes of Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja to attack the spinner, but it backfired. CSK needed 26 runs in the final over, and they fell 10 runs short after Jadeja hit a couple of fours and a six off the last three balls.
