They stitched a 77-run stand for the fifth wicket against CSK.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) youngsters Priyam Garg and Abhishek Sharma stole the show at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium with their sensational batting performance in the 14th game of the ongoing IPL 2020 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Friday (2nd October).
The young Indian stars complemented each other well when the SRH needed the most after Hyderabad’s top international guns David Warner (28), Jonny Bairstow (0), Kane Williamson (9), Manish Pandey (29) failed to fire and took them to 164/5 against CSK following the disastrous batting collapse in Dubai.
When SRH were reeling at 69 for four, Priyam took the charge of the team and played a fearless innings of 51* off 26 balls – his maiden IPL fifty as well as added 77 runs for the fifth wicket with Abhishek Sharma (31) and took them to competitive total of 164/5 which later the team successfully defended and won the game 7 runs against MS Dhoni-led CSK in Dubai.
Following his Player of the Match show, Priyam has opened up about his partnership with Abhishek and how they gelled well together to script a victory for the SRH against the CSK.
Garg told Sharma in a video posted by IPL on Twitter: “I had no pressure when Abhishek came in to bat, because we know each other and our strengths. We both gelled well together and enjoyed each others’ batting. I felt really good about scoring my first IPL fifty.”
On a horrible mix up that cost the wicket of Kane Williamson, Priyam said: “It felt really bad when he got run-out. He was a set batsman. That he was run-out was a mistake, but everything went alright after that. When I went back to the dugout, he said to me ‘don’t worry mate, forget about it. You’ve batted really well.”
While Abhishek said: “I thought I could take 3-4 balls to get in, but that turned into 7-8 balls. Priyam was batting very well, so I thought I shouldn’t be the one negating the runs, so I decided to target Ravindra Jadeja.”
Noteworthy, the SRH will next taken on MI in their next game in the IPL on Sunday, 4th October.
