Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Chennai Super Kings by 7 runs at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai yesterday night and clinched their second win of the tournament while Chennai Super Kings suffered their third consecutive loss.
Earlier Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and opted to bat first but Jonny Bairstow got out for a duck off Deepak Chahar bowling. David Warner and Manish Pandey rebuilt the innings but both batsmen couldn't convert their starts into big knocks and later Kane Williamson also got run out and at 69/4 in 11 overs Sunrisers was in deep trouble but youngsters Priyam Garg and Abhishek Sharma counter-attacked and added 77 runs in the next 7 overs and took the score to over 150 runs and eventually Hyderabad finished on 164/5 in 20 overs. Priyam Garg scored 51* runs off just 25 balls while Abhishek Sharma played 31 runs knock.
In reply, Chennai Super Kings had a poor start and out of form, Shane Watson got out for just 1 run off Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowling. Ambati Rayudu too couldn't do much and was bowled out by T Natrajan for a single digit. Faf du Plessis played a few good shots but he got run out and at 36/3 Chennai was on the back foot. Kedar Jadhav too failed and Super Kings reduced to 42/4 in 9th over. MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja started to rebuild the innings but they couldn't score quick runs.
In the end, Jadeja played a few big shots and brought up his maiden IPL fifty and got out on the score of 50. In the second last over MS Dhoni hit a four and a six and thus kept Chennai alive in the match. Bhuvneshwar Kumar had got injured and in his absence, Abdul Samad had to bowl the last over. Chennai needed 28 runs in the last over but they could manage 20 runs and lost the match by 7 runs.
