Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Delhi Capitals by 15 runs at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi yesterday night and registered their first win of IPL 2020.
Earlier Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bowl first. Captain David Warner and Jonny Bairstow gave a slow and steady start of 77 runs. Warner got out off Mishra bowling for 45 runs and later Manish Pandey also got out for just 3 runs and thus Delhi made a come back in the game. Kane Williamson who was playing his first game of the season played a few beautiful shots and shifted the momentum towards his team.
Bairstow brought up his fifty and got out after that and in the end, Kane Williamson's 41 off 26 balls and debutant Abdul Samad's cameo helped Sunrisers Hyderabad to post a fighting total of 162/4.
In reply Delhi Capitals also had a poor start as Prithvi Shaw got out for just 2 runs in the first over of the innings. Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer tried to rebuild the innings but couldn't score quick runs and captain Iyer gave up on Rashid Khan's bowling and later Dhawan was also dismissed by Khan and at 62/3 in 12th over Delhi was in trouble. Rishabh Pant and Shimron Hetmyer hit a few sixes and took the score to over 100 runs.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar broke this stand by removing Hetmyer and in the next over Rashid Khan sent Pant back to the dressing room and put Delhi on the back foot. Marcus Stoinis too couldn't do much and a brilliant yorker from T Natrajan dismissed him via LBW and in the end, Rababda played a few shots but that wasn't enough and Delhi suffered a 15 runs loss.
Rashid Khan was named Man of the Match for his match-winning spell of 3/14.
