Riding on Samson’s extraordinary knock, RR posted a mammoth 216/7 in 20 overs. His innings was laced with one four and nine sixes.
After legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Gautam Gambhir and Steve Smith, CSK all-rounder Shane Watson has lauded Samson by calling him “one of the most talented batsmen” he has ever seen.
“Sanju Samson’s innings was absolutely crazy. I remember the first time I played with him and saw him at the Rajasthan Royals when I was there, he was 17 at the time and was the most gifted 17-year-old I have ever seen,” Watson said in a show titled ‘The Debrief’ on t20stars.com.
Shane Watson was part of the Rajasthan Royals side from 2008 to 2015 and he has batted alongside Samson on several occasions. In 2016, Watson joined Royal Challengers Bangalore, and then in 2018 he moved to his current team, the Chennai Super Kings.
“[He has this] ability to be able to hit spin bowling and fast bowling, some real fast bowling as well, and hit them everywhere. He is honestly one of the most talented batsmen I have ever seen,” he added.
While Watson acknowledged that CSK bowlers perhaps weren’t at their best on the day at Sharjah, but said Samson ‘middled every single ball that he faced’.
“Yes we probably didn’t ball at our best, but he didn’t miss the middle of his bat from ball one. Sanju is a phenomenal talent, and gosh, he can go up and up and up,” he remarked.
