Nayar believes believes Morgan and Cummins add a lot of value to KKR set-up.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) assistant coach Abhishek Nayar was delighted to see Kamlesh Nagarkoti finally get match-fit ahead of the upcoming 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 after having missed out of the previous two IPL seasons due to injuries.
Nagarkoti, one of the stars of India’s victorious 2018 Under-19 World Cup campaign, was picked up by the KKR in 2018, but injury after injury forced the young gun out of action for the last two years.
However, KKR backed Nagarkoti through the years and this time around, the young speedster looks good with his fitness and is raring to take the field for the two-time champions in the IPL 2020 and Nayar hopes the 20-year-old will stay match fit for the upcoming tournament in the UAE.
Nayar told Sportstar: “I believe it’s nice that Kamlesh is match fit and hopefully he’ll stay match fit for the IPL. Personally, I might be very pleased to see the child lastly getting to play after two years. These are thrilling occasions forward.”
Meanwhile, he also commented on the addition of England and Australia superstars Eoin Morgan and Pat Cummins to the KKR, saying the presence of the world-class cricketers would bring a lot to the table.
KKR purchased the 2019 World Cup-winning captain Morgan for Rs 5.25 crore while Australia’s Test vice-captain Cummins became the most expensive overseas with Rs 15.5 crore spending at the IPL 2020 auction last December.
Interestingly, Morgan and Cummins both have previously played for KKR – Cummins in 2011 and Morgan in 2012.
Nayar signed off by saying, “One of the things we were looking for the team was leadership quality in the group. Brendon and Dinesh were very upfront about it. We thought Morgan and Cummins could add a lot of value. One is a World Cup winner and the other is the No. 1 Test bowler and vice-captain of Australia. This is what we needed. Hopefully, we will have a great season.”
