Former KKR player Aakash Chopra believes that the current captain of the team, Dinesh Karthik needs to bat up the order in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 if he wants to be in the reckoning for a spot in India’s T20I squad.

The renowned commentator said the KKR captain being a good wicket-keeper as well can make a comeback to Team India if he makes a lot of runs and that’s only possible if he bats up the order.

Chopra made these remarks after he was asked if a good IPL could bring Karthik back in India's T20 team at the No. 5 spot, considering the fact that Rishabh Pant and Manish Pandey have not cemented their places yet, on his Facebook page.

In a video uploaded on his official Facebook page, Chopra said: “I feel what you are saying is correct. He can definitely come back. But whether he will be able to do so.”

He further added, “First thing is he should bat up the order for KKR. Because he bats too low down the order and when you bat so low, then your turn doesn't come. So he has to bat up the order so that he can make a lot of runs. Otherwise, if he bats at No.5 even when he is the captain of an IPL team, he will not have that many runs so that he can stake a claim.”

Noteworthy, Karthik will captain KKR in the upcoming IPL 13 which will begin from September 19th to November 10th in the UAE.
