The tournament has been postponed by six months to ensure the qualification process isn't affected amid COVID-19 pandemic.
The tournament, originally due to be played in February-March that year, will now be played six months later in October-November to ensure the qualification process for what is likely to be another 10-team event can be followed in entirety.

"ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 moved to October November 2023 to allow longer qualification period," said the ICC in a media release.
The qualification process includes the 13-team ODI Super League, the Cricket World Cup League 2 and also the lower rung ICC Challenge League A & B. The fixtures of all three have been affected by the pandemic, which the longer duration of qualification period will now allow reallocating.
"This additional time will be used to reschedule games that might be lost because of the pandemic ensuring qualification can be decided on the field of play."
8 teams - teams finishing in the top seven in the Super League and hosts India - will qualify directly for the T20 World Cup, while the teams finishing bottom five will be joined by the top three from the CWC League 2 and two-best sides from another qualifying tournament, which is to be contested by the bottom four sides of CWC League 2 and topper of each Challenge League, and compete for the last two 2023 World Cup spots at the global qualifier, expected to be scheduled in late 2022.
