IPL: Amit Mishra highlights how much beneficial IPL has been to Indian Cricket

Mishra has also his say on the IPL 2020 behind the closed doors.

The Indian Premier League (IPL), India’s highly valued domestic T20 tournament, has an undeniably huge contribution to Indian cricket, playing a key role in the growth of the quality cricketers in the country.

Apart from the monetary benefits, Indian cricket has benefited a lot from the IPL and continues to benefit from the competition – from the players getting exposure, paving way for many youngsters to enter the Indian team to get a lot of talented players.

Recently, veteran Indian spinner Amit Mishra admitted the same, saying India has gotten a lot of talent through the IPL as well as the nowadays players have many more things in their arsenal because of this T20 tournament besides the financial assistance.

Mishra said during an Instagram live session on the official handle of Delhi Capitals: “IPL has kept on getting difficult with each passing season, especially it has been difficult for the spinners, I have played the tournament for 12 years now, this would have been my 13th, India has gotten a lot of talent through this tournament, many young players also got financial help through this competition.”

He further counted the advantages of the IPL, “When I played IPL for the first time in 2008, the batsmen had limited shots, but now the batsmen have many more things in their arsenal, they are more powerful, players now have more shots as well.”

Meanwhile, the 13th edition of the IPL was postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 crisis and Mishra said it would not be right to play the tournament next 2-3 months when he was asked to comment on the talks of playing the league behind closed doors.

He added, “Things regarding coronavirus need to get normal first, we should give two-three months and then take a call on playing the tournament. Playing cricket is necessary but we should give some time to coronavirus, hopefully, things will settle down by then.”

Mishra also picked Mumbai’s Eden Gardens as his favorite cricket ground in India, while revealing that Sachin Tendulkar has always been his role model, but said he looked up to Anil Kumble and Shane Warne in his initial days.

Noteworthy, the spinner has played in every IPL edition so far, representing Deccan Chargers, Pune Warriors India, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and the Delhi Capitals.
