IPL: Steve Smith is gearing to be an avid cook, says RR physio John Gloster

John also named a player who is useful in kitchen.

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Wednesday (April 22) hosted a free weekly webinar where the team physio John Gloster and spin consultant Ish Sodhi discussed the several subjects, including about how to stay healthy in the COVID-19 lockdown.

During the webinar, Gloster and Sodhi were asked questions related to health, nutrition, maintaining fitness during the lockdown, how cricketers are coping with the situation, how they are doing training during the ongoing Coronavirus crisis by fans from both India and overseas.

Interestingly, the Royal colts (boys) and Royals sparks (girls) have also joined the webinar call and asked the number of questions to both Ish and John. Well, the RR physio spoke about the three things that really matter to any athlete, and that is: “Strength of our immunity system, mental space, and physical strength.”

John further explained how the ongoing unwanted break due to the pandemic was indeed an incredible opportunity for the people to change some habits, install new habits.

He further went on to tell how the Royals players have taken to cooking while revealing Australia batsman Steve Smith is gearing to be “an avid cook.”

John said, “Our players have found cooking to be a really good stress-buster Varun Aaron is particularly useful in the kitchen, the other is Robin Uthappa. Shreyas (Gopal) is trying his best. Steve (Smith) has sent me some recipes, gearing to be an avid cook,”

Meanwhile, New Zealand spinner Ish also revealed how his mother helped him improving his cooking skills. He added, “Contacted my mum the other day, learned how to make Rotis, was missing home-cooked Indian food."

Whereas, John said the focus should be on preparing for life post the ongoing global crisis, “This is about getting ready and be prepared for life post-COVId-19… how can we make the best of this time and maintain our fitness, watch our diet. Switched on and ready to go, whenever it said let’s get to the field.”

The RR physio signed off by saying about some of the indoor exercises that the fans asked about: “Lunge walking, push-ups, stairs-based exercises…most people have access to it. One can do squats, skipping, and yoga. RR is putting up lots of videos of players doing stuff, young cricketers can follow that.. See for Smith and Jos Buttler’s videos.”
