IPL 2020: Sri Lanka proposes to host the IPL 13 after BCCI postpones it indefinitely

India has over 12,000 Coronavirus cases with close to 400 deaths so far.

Looking at the current situation around the whole world, the BCCI had postponed this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) until further notice because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

While the Indian board wants to have the tournament in a “safe” window, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SL) has offered to host the tournament.

According to the SLC president, Sri Lanka will be safe from this Coronavirus pandemic as compared to India and thus if it is possible, he is planning to write to the Indian board soon.

It looks like Sri Lanka will be clear of the coronavirus before India. If so, we can host the tournament here. We will be writing to the Indian cricket board soon,” SLC president Shammi Silva told Reuters in Colombo.

While there were some speculations to hold the tournament in September-October window before this year’s T20 World Cup in Australia. 

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought the whole world to a standstill as it has infected over 2 million people with the death toll going over 1,36,000.
