The future of IPL 2020 is yet to be decided.

With the Coronavirus affecting major tournaments around the world, the participation of foreign players in the IPL has become a major point of concern. Cricket Australia (CA) has rested the final decision with their players whether they want to go to India or not.

A communications manager with the Australian cricket board said, “The IPL is not affiliated with CA as a separate competition featuring individual Australian players, whose contracts are directly with their franchises.

From a CA perspective, we continue to monitor the situation, particularly looking at the advice provided by DFAT (Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade) and other relevant government agencies, including the Australian Institute of Sport, which has outlined a coordinated approach for all Australian sports,” the manager added.

The decision has been left on the players and CA did not reveal the availability of their players at the moment as they considered it will be ‘premature’ to do so.

We aren’t in a position to comment at this stage particularly given we’ve not received any advice from India/IPL team. Cricket Australia has not made any comment in relation to this. I think it’s too early,” he said.

The future of IPL 2020 is now in the hands of the BCCI and the final decision is expected on Saturday (March 14).
