By Jatin Sharma - 15 Dec, 2019

Delhi Capitals (previously Daredevils) is an IPL franchise based out of Delhi city. It is owned by the GMR Group and JSW group. The team is the only franchise, not to have played in the finals of the tournament even a single time.

They have made it into the playoffs on four occasions in 2008,2009, 2012 and the latest in 2019. The current staff of the team sees Ricky Ponting as the head coach, Mohammad Kaif as the assistant coach, while James Hopes and Samuel Badree are the fast and spin bowling coaches respectively.

The team has been blowing hot and cols over the years, but has been home to many great players like Sehwag, McGrath, Gambhir, Dhawan, and others, while David Warner, AB de Villiers and many more young talents got their first taste of IPL in DC. Under the new leadership of Shreyas Iyer, the team is going in the right direction in the coming new decade, but as we come to the end of this decade, Team COC presents to you the All-time IPL XI of Delhi Capitals (DC).

Check out the Delhi Capitals (DC)- An All-time IPL XI

VIRENDER SEHWAG (C)
M: 79| Runs: 2174| SR: 160.32| HS: 119| 100s: 1| 50s: 15| 6s: 85 | 4s: 285

The former India captain was the Delhi’s favorite and named as the icon player of the Delhi Daredevils franchise. He led the team to a fourth-place finish in the inaugural edition of the tournament. He played for the franchise till the 2013 season.

Sehwag ended his DD career with 2174 runs in 79 matches with one century and 15 half-centuries to his name. He was one of the most dominant openers in the IPL and the team benefitted with him at the top, as he flourished even further after giving up captaincy in 2009.

DAVID WARNER
M: 55| Runs: 1435| SR: 133.11| HS: 109*| 100s: 2| 50s: 10| 6s: 58| 4s: 146

Warner was signed by the then Daredevils in 2009 and was a part of the team until the 2014 edition. He had an impressive IPL with the franchise scoring 1435 runs in 55 matches with two centuries to his name at a strike rate of 133.11. He also hit 58 sixes and 146 fours during his tenure. He provided a one-two punch with Sehwag at the top, making the bowlers suffer in the powerplay overs.

GAUTAM GAMBHIR
M: 46| Runs: 1182| SR: 122.86| HS: 86| 100s: 0| 50s: 9| 6s: 13 | 4s: 140

Gautam Gambhir captained the franchise in two different times during the tournament. The first reign came in 2009 and second in IPL 2018. Gambhir played 46 matches, making 1182 runs with 9 fifties at a strike rate of 122.86. Gambhir led from the front and taking over the leadership freed Sehwag to thrash the bowlers to all parts of the ground. Gambhir returned to the franchise in 2018 but failed to ignite the winning spirit that was expected of him.

SHREYAS IYER
M: 62| Runs: 1681| SR: 126.96| HS: 96| 100s: 0| 50s: 13| 6s: 67 | 4s: 149

Shreyas Iyer was picked by the franchise in 2015 and since that time, he has played 62 matches, scoring 1681 runs with 13 fifties to his name and the best score of 96 at a strike rate of 126.96. Iyer has also led the team since the 2018 edition and continued to give the desired result to the team leading them to playoffs for the first time since 2012. He will continue leading the team with the hope of taking them into the finals for the first time come 2020.

RISHABH PANT (WK)
M: 54| Runs: 1736| SR: 162.69| HS: 128*| 100s: 1| 50s: 11| 6s: 94| 4s: 152

Rishabh Pant was bought by the franchise in 2016 edition and since then has made quite an impact in the tournament with 1736 runs in 54 matches with a strike rate of 162.29 and a century to his name, to go with 11 fifties as well. He has hit 94 sixes and his exploits led him to make his debut for India as well. Pant is expected to be a bit more consistent with his performances in the future and earning more wins for the team.

JP DUMINY
M: 38| Runs: 1015| SR: 130.79| HS: 78*| 100s: 0| 50s: 6| 6s: 43 | 4s: 62

JP Duminy played 38 matches for Capitals and made 1015 runs with 5 fifties with the highest score of 78*. He also captained the side in the 2015 season and was a decent performer for the team during some really tough times when they finished in the bottom half of the points table for 4-5 seasons on a trot. Duminy proved to be a star for the team when the chips were down.

CHRIS MORRIS
M: 34| Runs: 427| SR: 160.52| HS: 82*| 100s: 0| 50s: 2| 6s: 22| WKTS: 41| ECO: 8.17| BB: 4/26| 4Ws: 1

Chris Morris was perhaps one of the best picks by the franchise in 2016 for INR 7 crores. He immediately showed his worth with a valiant 82* in 37 balls against Gujarat Lions and was retained by the franchise, but couldn’t play due to injury. He played a big role in DC qualifying for the final four in IPL 2019 and in 34 matches has scored 427 runs and picked 41 wickets. He has made his runs with a strike rate of 160.52 and has an economy of 8.17 while bowling.

KAGISO RABADA
M: 18| WKTS: 31| ECO: 8.13| BB: 4/21| 4Ws: 2

Kagiso Rabada has been one of the game-changing picks for the Delhi Capitals in 2017 and in 18 matches he has picked 31 wickets with the best of 4/21. His best bowling was against Kolkata Knight Riders when he won DC a super over against them at Kotla against all odds and Andre Russell. He has been retained by the franchise for the upcoming IPL 2020 season.

SHAHBAZ NADEEM
M: 61| WKTS: 40| ECO: 7.36| BB: 3/16
Shahbaz Nadeem has been the silent performer for the Delhi Capitals since 2012 and has played 61 wickets, picking 40 wickets at an economy of 7.36. Nadeem has played the second fiddle to Amit Mishra most of the time, keeping one end tight and allowing bowlers to pick wickets at the other end.

ASHISH NEHRA
M: 27| WKTS: 36| ECO: 7.50| BB: 3/26

Ashish Nehra joined the Delhi franchise in 2009 in a trade-off with Mumbai Indians for Shikhar Dhawan. He played 27 matches for DC, picking 36 wickets and was most impressive given that it was his home ground. The career could have been something else if not for injuries and form.

AMIT MISHRA
M: 92| WKTS: 97| ECO: 7.33| BB: 5/17| 4Ws: 1| 5Ws:1
Amit Mishra has been amazing for the Capitals picking 97 wickets in 92 matches, being their highest wicket-taker at an economy of 7.33 with the best bowling of 5/17 and has taken a hat-trick as well. Mishra’s experience has been key for young bowlers in the team including Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane and Rahul Tewatia as well. Mishra is one of the four bowlers to pick 150 plus wickets in the league and will hope of adding more wickets to the tally when he plays for the team in IPL 2020.
