Gautam Gambhir could co-own Delhi Capitals, says report

Gambhir is understood to be in talks with the existing franchise stakeholders.

If reports are to be believed, former India opener Gautam Gambhir could become the co-owner of IPL franchise Delhi Capitals. Gambhir is understood to be in talks with the franchise's 50% stakeholders GMR group for the last few months, says a report in TOI. The JSW sports holds the next 50% stakes. 

The negotiations have been held and only a clearance from the BCCI and IPL governance is awaited. Gambhir wishes to a buy a 10% stake, that could be of a value amounting to INR 100 crores.

When the JSW sports bought the 50% stakes last year and rebranded the franchise from Delhi Daredevils, as it was previously called, the money it spent to do so was measured around INR 550 crores. 

Gambhir, today a BJP MP from East Delhi, wasn't available for comment to TOI but a source close to the matter said the talks are definitely on and the details will be revealed after a formal signing of the agreement. 

"The matter has been discussed for the last few months and it is only a matter of days," a source said.

The left-hander played close to 250 international games for the country and had a storied IPL career as well until his retirement. He also led Delhi Capitals in his final season in the cash-rich league.
