The IPL 2020 auction will take place on December 19, 2019, in Kolkata, marking the start of the new decade of the most popular and profitable T20 league in the world. The league has been successful for so long because of the amalgamation of both local talent and international stars coming together to entertain the crowd.

Foreign players of repute have often become the foundation of the league providing their franchises the much-needed experience and a different style of the game possibly. They also give a valuable learning experience to the local players, helping elevate their game and therefore are often paid big bucks in the auction.

TEAM COC presents to you five such players of international repute and stardom which might get big bids in the auction and break the bank.

Check out the 5 foreign players who might break the bank in the upcoming auction

TOM BANTON

England’s 21-year-old sensation Tom Banton has taken the world by surprise with his immense hitting power during the Vitality T20 Blast and other such leagues. Banton made 549 runs in the T20 Blast at an amazing strike rate of 161.47. He continued his form for Somerset in the Royal London One-Day Cup amassing 454 runs.

IPL 2020: More Indian coaches must be utilized in IPL, says Rahul Dravid

He has shown a desire to play for the Mumbai Indians and has already made his T20I debut for England against New Zealand. In 20 T20 matches, he has 647 runs with one century and 4 fifties and has hit 27 sixes and 77 fours. The wicketkeeper-batsman will be a hot commodity in the upcoming auction, given his repertoire of reverse scoops, flicks, and sweeps.

GLENN MAXWELL
Glenn Maxwell had missed the last year’s IPL season as he wanted to make headway into the Australian Test team. He was part of the KXIP and Delhi Capitals team and so far in IPL, has made 1397 runs in 69 matches with six fifties and a best score of 95 at a strike rate of 161.13.

MS Dhoni has no plans to retire, to play IPL 2021 as well, as per CSK sources

Maxwell is a match-winner with the bat and with the ball can come in handy with his off-spin. The Victorian all-rounder has a stellar record in the T20 format with 5589 runs in 251 matches with 3 centuries and the best score of 145* with a strike rate of 154.94. A wonderful game-changer, Maxwell, if he confirms entering into the auction, will get a big bid given his reputation and ability.

EOIN MORGAN
Eoin Morgan has never had a successful run in the IPL despite being one of the best-limited overs batsmen in a long time. He was part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise when they won the IPL in 2016 and has played for Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the cash-rich league.

However, with a World Cup win under his belt and a couple of teams looking for captains in the upcoming IPL season, Morgan, who is 33 years old, might be picked for a long haul finally. He is a great fielder anywhere in the field and his leadership skills are probably the best anywhere in the world today.

CHRIS LYNN
Chris Lynn was surprisingly released by the Kolkata Knight Riders and this means there are chances that he might be picked up by any other franchise in the upcoming auction. Lynn saw a dip in form and given his high price for retention, KKR decided to let him go despite him scoring 491 and 405 runs in past two seasons.

The 29-year-old hard-hitter has 4425 runs in 162 T20 matches with one century and 31 fifties to his name at an astonishing strike rate of 141.96 and 251 sixes to his name. He was the first one to hit 100 sixes in the Australian T20 league, the BBL and franchises would want such a power hitter in their lineup. He might get more than anticipated especially after his fireworks in the recently concluded T10 League.

AARON FINCH
Australian limited-overs’ captain Aaron Finch has been a part of IPL since 2010 and has made 1737 runs in 75 matches with 13 half-centuries at a strike rate of 130.39. Finch had not put his name in the auction of IPL 2019 as he wanted to make a case for the Australian Test team. That plan didn’t succeed after he failed to make substantial runs against India and Sri Lanka at home.

BCCI mulls nine-team IPL instead of ten for now

The only batsman with two 150 plus scores in T20Is, Finch has confirmed his participation in the IPL 2020 auction and franchises would love to have an aggressive opener with 8440 runs in 272 T20 matches with 7 hundreds with a strike rate of 143.92 and the highest score of 172.
