IPL 2020: Team-wise list of all players retained, released and traded

Here are all the releases, trades and retention of players that happened during IPL trade window.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) trade window closed on November 15 and during this time all the eight franchises of the league did lots of permutations and combinations for the upcoming IPL season in 2020.

The team management made many trades of players in return for either other players or full cash payment. There were many big names that were traded during this window especially the names of R Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane and Trent Boult that took people by surprise.

Mumbai Indians

The current and four-time champions Mumbai Indians had to make two releases by default given that Yuvraj Singh retired from the league and Jason Behrendorff is out of cricket for a considerable amount of time due to his back surgery. Therefore, they got Trent Boult from Delhi Capitals and retained Mitchell McClenaghan.

Surprisingly, they released young Alzarri Joseph, who had picked the record IPL haul of 6/12 against SRH. Another predicted release that came true was of Evin Lewis who lost his opener’s spot to De Kock.

Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings showed their loyalty towards their core players for one more season as they only released five players to increase their purse. Mohit Sharma was released due to injuries and David Willey and Scoot Kuggeleijn were expected to be released as well.

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capital surprised their fans by trading in R Ashwin from KXIP and Ajinkya Rahane from Rajasthan Royals. Both of these trades have strengthened their squad more or less. Rahane provides solid support to the middle order, while Ashwin’s guile and variations will suit the Arun Jaitley stadium pitch perfectly. Colin Munro, Hanuma Vihari, Chris Morris and Colin Ingram didn’t perform as expected and were released.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Virat Kohli-led RCB team did a big purge of their squad, releasing a host of players including Dale Steyn, all-rounders Colin de Grandhomme, Marcus Stoinis and Nathan Coulter-Nile given how expensive they were both on and off the field. They now have just two overseas players in their squad and have opened up a lot of spots for more performers to be bought in the upcoming auction.

Sunrisers Hyderabad also released non-performing assets in Martin Guptill and Yusuf Pathan, while Shakib’s ban ruled him out by default. They have retained their core players and with Warner and Bairstow available for the full season in 2020, they might be the team to beat.

Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals let go of their star players in Ajinkya Rahane and K Gowtham and opened up some spots in their team to get players in. They brought in an Indian fast bowler in Ankit Rajpoot, while traded off Dhawal Kulkarni to Mumbai Indians. Steve Smith was named the captain for the upcoming season.

Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders in a surprise move have let go of Chris Lynn and Robin Uthappa based on their performances in last season and ongoing domestic season (in case of Uthappa). Also released was veteran spinner Piyush Chawla who has picked 150 wickets in the league, but failed to do any magic in the last few seasons.

Kings XI Punjab under new coach Anil Kumble decided to let go of R Ashwin and have released long-time member David Miller as well. Sam Curran, who picked a hat-trick last season was also released, while Chris Gayle was retained and it seems they will be naming their new captain in the coming days.
