IPL 2019: COC Players' Ratings- Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

IPL 2019: COC Players' Ratings- Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Chennai Super Kings lost their sixth final in nine appearances.

By Jatin Sharma - 13 May, 2019

MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ended up heartbroken and on the losing side on Sunday, May 12 in the IPL 2019 final against Mumbai Indians (MI), as they lost the match and the trophy by just 1 run. Lasith Malinga defended 9 runs in the last over and trapped Shardul Thakur LBW on the final ball of the over with two runs needed to ensure a record fourth IPL title for MI.

Earlier, MI was restricted to 149/8 with Kieron Pollard making 41* and Deepak Chahar picking three wickets. CSK’s chase was anchored by Shane Watson’s 80, but his and MS Dhoni’s runouts proved to be detrimental to their efforts.

Despite the result in the final, Chennai Super Kings, who were the defending champions, played brilliantly well throughout the season with some hiccups, that being Mumbai Indians, the only team which defeated them four times in the tournament.

Keeping everything in mind, Team COC presents the players’ ratings for the Chennai Super Kings team.

Here are the CSK Players’ Ratings for IPL 2019
(All Images courtesy IANS)

MS DHONI- 10/10
MS Dhoni scored 416 runs in 15 matches with a strike rate of 134.62 at an average of 83.20 with the best score of 84*. He was amazing with his glove work as well effecting 16 dismissals (11 ct + 5 st) and was amazing with his review calls as well.

His leadership was exemplarity as he led his limitedly abled troops wisely and only if his middle order had clicked, the ending of the story might have been different for Dhoni and co.

IMRAN TAHIR- 10/10
The Purple Cap holder with 26 wickets, Imran Tahir picked wickets whenever he was brought on to bowl and kept the runs low. He gave away runs at 6.69 rpo and had the best bowling figures of 4/12 and kept the runs down.

DEEPAK CHAHAR- 9/10
Deepak Chahar played all the games and picked 22 wickets for the yellow brigade, picking the best bowling of 3/20 and gave away runs at 7.47 rpo. Chahar did the job he was given to by MS Dhoni, picking up wickets upfront.

HARBHAJAN SINGH- 8/10
Harbhajan Singh picked 16 wickets in 11 matches and was Dhoni’s trump card in their home matches at Chennai. He was also wonderful in the way he made the batsmen play wherever he wanted him to hit the ball.

RAVINDRA JADEJA- 7/10
Jadeja picked 15 wickets and also scored 106 runs for the CSK team. His fielding was just a bonus for the team. His best bowling was 3/9 and highest score with the bat was 31*.

FAF DU PLESSIS- 6/10

Faf played 12 matches and scored 396 runs with three fifties with a best of 96 with a strike rate of 123.36 and breathed some life in the batting at the top order with Rayudu, Watson, and Raina struggling to get going.

DWAYNE BRAVO- 5/10

Dwayne Bravo picked 12 wickets and made 80 runs with the bat. However, the West Indian all-rounder didn’t look in the form that we have all known him to be in.

SHANE WATSON- 4/10
Shane Watson scored 398 runs in 17 matches and was backed by the team management despite low returns throughout the tournament. He made three fifties in the tournament with the best score of 96 and an 80 in the finals, but couldn’t take the team past the finishing line against MI in Hyderabad. His fielding was a liability for CSK.

M VIJAY- 2/10

M Vijay played two games and scored 64 runs with a best of 38, but struggled to get going unlike his past ventures in the yellow uniform.

MITCHELL SANTNER- 2/10

Kiwi Mitchell Santner got four games to play and got four wickets in those matches. He also hit the winning runs against Rajasthan Royals to take CSK to a thrilling win.

SURESH RAINA- 2/10

383 runs in 17 games were Suresh Raina’s tally of runs in IPL 2019 which came with three fifties, but he clearly struggled to make runs whenever pressure was on him. He looked a shadow of the batsman who had ruled the tournament some years ago. He dropped catches at an alarming rate and his fielding was not upto the par with many mistakes.

SHARDUL THAKUR- 2/10

Shardul Thakur played 10 games and picked 8 wickets. He will be remembered for his catch of Krunal Pandya in the final against MI. He was impressed with the ball, but expensive, giving away runs at 9.36 rpo.

AMBATI RAYUDU- 1/10
Ambati Rayudu might have got famous for his 3D glasses tweets after being left out of the Indian squad for the 2019 ICC World Cup. He was kept in the reserves for the WC, but with just 282 runs in 17 matches for CSK, his chances have faded away quickly.

SCOTT KUGGELEIJN- 1/10

Scott Kuggeleijn was drafted as replacement bowler by CSK after Lungi Ngidi pulled out due to an injury. He played two matches and picked two wickets, but found it hard to adapt to the Indian conditions.

KEDAR JADHAV- 1/10

Kedar Jadhav made 162 runs in 14 matches and basically struggled to get going. Then he got injured just before the playoffs and has been rehabilitating to get fit in time for the upcoming World Cup.

DHRUV SHOREY 0/10

Shorey got one game and made 5 runs.

SAM BILLINGS 0/10
Sam Billings got to play just one game this season and scored a duck.

MOHIT SHARMA- 0/10

Mohit Sharma made his comeback to the CSK squad but played just one game picking 1/27.

KARN SHARMA- 0/10

Karn Sharma also played one game and picked 1/33.
