Smith won the toss and chose to bowl first. Quinton de Kock (65), Suryakumar (34) and Hardik Pandya (23) were the main scorers for the MI team as they put up 161/5 in 20 overs, while skipper Rohit fell for 5 runs, to a legspinner S Gopal. Gopal was also the best bowler for RR side with 2/21.
In reply, Rahane fell for 12, while new opening partner Sanju Samson made 35 in 19 balls. Though Ben Stokes fell for a duck, Steve Smith and Riyan Parag kept the chase going. Parag fell for 43 in 29 balls, but Smith carried on for 59* in 48 balls and RR defeated MI by 5 wickets, their second win over MI this season and fourth on a trot. Rahul Chahar picked 3/29 and was the best MI bowler.
