Scott Kuggeleijn got a not guilty verdict on a single charge of raping a woman in May 2015.
Chennai Super Kings, who have been successful in winning both their first two matches have been dealt a double blow, as they lost Lungi Ngidi to an injury and David Willey willingly pulled out from IPL 2019 due to personal reasons.
CSK were allowed a replacement for injured Ngidi and they signed up New Zealand’s Scott Kuggeleijn. The 27-year-old fast bowler impressed in the T20I series against India recently and CSK coach Stephen Fleming said, “We've gone with Scott Kuggeleijn, who's a New Zealand international, who bowls quick and bats well. So, we've gone for an all-rounder who has good pace and good variations. He'll be joining us next week.”
However, the signing of Scott Kuggeleijn has not gone down well with the Twitterati given that Northern Districts all-rounder faced a single charge of raping a woman in May 2015. He was involved in two rape trials in 2016 and 2017, as per the reports of stuff.co.nz.
Son of former NZ cricketer Chris Kuggeleijn, Scott admitted to having sexual intercourse with a woman, despite the woman saying no atleast twice. Despite opposition from the defense, a jury found Scott Kuggeleijn not guilty of the rape charges in the retrial.
When Scott Kuggeleijn played against India in the T20I series in January-February 2019, there were banners protesting his involvement in the game, something the New Zealand cricket board didn’t like and the banners were removed, but soon popped up again after NZC was slammed on social media.
Now with Scott Kuggeleijn being involved with the 3-time IPl winners Chennai Super Kings, the Twitterverse has come down hard on the team management for their choice.
