IPL 2019 Auction: Team-wise list of available spots and remaining purse

The auction for 2019 IPL will take place in Jaipur on Dec 18, 2018.

December 18, 2018, will see the IPL 2019 auction take place in Jaipur which will see a total of 346 cricketers vying for 70 available slots in the eight Indian Premier League (IPL) teams.

Originally, 1003 players had registered for the auction, but the names were shortlisted after the franchises submitted the shortlist of players.  Unlike last time, when the auction was a whole two-day affair, this time the auction will be a one-day affair given the 70 spots available, and the auction will be officiated by a new gavel master in Hugh Edmeades, who has the experience of more than 30 years in the field and is also an independent fine art, classic car, and charity auctioneer.

Here is the breakup of how much money the franchises have in their purse and how many spots they have open

 

CHENNAI SUPER KINGS (CSK)

The defending champions Chennai Super Kings have decided not to tinker with their winning combination and have retained almost their whole squad that played in the 2018 edition and won the title.

CSK needs to fill just two spots, which are going to be Indian players and they have INR 8.4 crore to bid on them.

SUNRISERS HYDERABAD (SRH)
The 2016 IPL champions and 2018 IPL finalists Sunrisers Hyderabad will have to fill five spots in the upcoming 2019 auction on December 18. SRH retained 17 players from their squad and traded their big opener Shikhar Dhawan to Delhi Capitals for three Indian players.

SRH needs to buy a maximum of three Indian and two overseas players and has a purse of INR 9.70 crore for it.

KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS (KKR)
Two-time IPL champions in 2012 and 2014, Kolkata Knight Riders made it into the second qualifier match in the 2018 season but were defeated by Sunrisers Hyderabad and eliminated from the competition. KKR had revamped their squad in 2018 auction, giving the reins of the team to Dinesh Karthik and bringing in some exciting players.

They have retained 13 players from last season and will be bidding for a maximum of seven Indians and five overseas players. For this, they have Rs 15.20 crore in their purse for the auction.

RAJASTHAN ROYALS (RR)
Rajasthan Royals had made a comeback into the IPL fold after serving a ban of two years, along with eventual champions Chennai Super Kings. The franchise owners had to rebuild the team choosing to hand the captaincy to Ajinkya Rahane after Steve Smith was banned from participating in the tournament thanks to his involvement in ball tampering scandal.

Under Rahane, team huffed and puffed into the playoffs, losing to KKR in the eliminator. Royals have retained 16 of their core players from the 2018 season, including Steve Smith and have nine slots available to fill in this auction.

They need to buy a maximum of six Indians and three overseas players and have Rs 20.95 crore in their purse.

MUMBAI INDIANS (MI)
The first team to win the IPL title three times (2013,2015,2017), Mumbai Indians failed to make it to the playoffs, finishing no.5 in the standings. MI made the first trade of the IPL 2019 trading window, bringing in Quinton de Kock from RCB.

Mumbai Indians have retained a total of 18 players and need to buy six Indians and one overseas player to fill seven slots. They have a purse of Rs 11.15 crore left to spend in the auction.

ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE (RCB)
Always the bridesmaid, never the bride, the Royal Challengers Bangalore are yet to win an IPL title, despite all their star power including the likes of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers in their ranks. They have retained 15 players and traded Quinton de Kock to Mumbai Indians.

RCB have 10 slots available to fill in this auction with Rs 18.15 crore in their kitty.

KINGS XI PUNJAB (KXIP)
Kings XI Punjab showed a lot of promise in the first half of the tournament in 2018 with early wins in first few matches, but still managed to finish second last in the points table, under the new captaincy of Ravichandran Ashwin.

They have 15 slots to fill from the auction and they have Rs 36.20 crore in their purse to do so. Out of the 15 slots, 11 slots are for Indian players and remaining 4 for the overseas players.

DELHI CAPITALS (DC)
The team formerly known as Delhi Daredevils had a change of name and hopefully change of fortunes as well, as the now rechristened Delhi Capitals would like to forget their last-place finish in 2018 edition of IPL.

DC made a big splash by trading in homeboy Shikhar Dhawan from SRH in exchange for three Indian players and have retained a total of 14 players. They have Rs 25.50 crore in their purse to fill their remaining 10 slots in the team.
