Australia's T20 specialist Glenn Maxwell will miss the upcoming season of Indian Premier League 2019 to play English county cricket. He wants to get his place in the Australian Test squad back.

Maxwell will be part of Lancashire along with Aussies mates Joe Burns and James Faulkner. “This is a pretty clear sign I still want to play Test cricket,” Maxwell told Melbourne’s Herald Sun newspaper on Wednesday.

“To knock back a chance to play IPL was a big decision and a tough decision. It’s not something you make lightly, but the thought of playing Test cricket again still burns deep. I desperately want to get back out there and I still think I have a lot to offer the Australian Test team.”

The 30-year-old last played for Australian Test side in September 2017 against Bangladesh. Maxwell is currently playing Sheffield Shield for Victoria.

Australia is currently 1-0 down in the four-match Test series against India. The hosts lost the first Test by 31 runs in Adelaide on Monday.
