The IPL 2027 auction is set to be held in Goa on December 16, 2026.
While Kartik Sharma is likely to avoid the axe, the 20-year-old all-rounder from Uttar Pradesh, Prashant Veer, might not be that lucky. Reportedly, CSK feel that Veer didn’t prove to be value for money. Veer played six games for CSK in IPL 2026, scoring 90 runs, with the highest score of 43, and failed to take a wicket.
Kartik Sharma, who is also 20 and plays as a wicketkeeper and batter from Rajasthan, has had a relatively better season, making 295 runs in 11 games at an average of 32.77, with his highest score being 71 against LSG.
This performance might save Kartik from getting axed by CSK management, but Cricbuzz has reported that, as per CSK officials, no decisions on retentions and releases have been taken.
The report also stated that CSK might not give up on Veer, and his release is only to free up funds for the IPL 2027 auction, and the franchise might try to pick up Veer again at a lower price. As of now, CSK has only Rs 2.4 crore remaining in their purse. This number can go up to Rs 7.4 crore with the Rs 5 crore increment per year to the salary cap.
The management has plans to make more money from the player release policy, and Veer could be one of those players. There are just a few days left till November 15, which is when franchises have to declare their releases.
Cricbuzz also reported that Punjab Kings (PBKS) have rubbish rumours of releasing South African all-rounder Marco Jansen. Top PBKS sources have revealed that franchise management has no intention of letting Jansen go.
Jansen had an underwhelming IPL 2026, taking nine wickets in 12 matches at an economy rate of over 10 and scoring 51 runs in five innings – hardly impressive returns. His recent exploits in international cricket should strengthen his case. For the record, he is the world's No. 1 bowler and all-rounder, as per ICC Test charts.
