The IPL trade window has been buzzing with rumors, particularly suggesting blockbuster player swaps.
Delhi Capitals (DC) on Monday (October 19) dismissed the IPL trade reports, involving their captain and all-rounder Axar Patel.
The IPL trade window has been buzzing with rumors, particularly suggesting blockbuster player swaps. Initial media reports claimed that DC were holding active negotiations with Mumbai Indians (MI) to acquire Hardik Pandya in exchange for Axar and Prithvi Shaw.
Separate speculative reports also surfaced linking Axar with a move to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) or Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
However, DC shared a video featuring Axar to put an end to speculations regarding trade negotiations or retention doubts, confirming his deep connection to the city and the team.
In the clip, Axar can be heard as saying: “Delhi mein aake apne wali feeling aati hai. Last 8 years se aa raha hoon, toh ek second home hi ban gaya hai mera. ("Coming to Delhi gives me that feeling of belonging. I have been coming here for the last 8 years, so it has truly become a second home to me.")
DC co-owner Parth Jindal also quashed the rumours as he quoted the post on X and wrote: “Ax bhaii, hamara Ax bhai - can’t wait to see you in the red and blue - we have unfinished business.”
After this official response, it is now clear that Axar Patel will remain a strong pillar of Delhi Capitals in the upcoming season as well. Under his captaincy, the franchise finished sixth on the points table in the IPL 2026 season, winning seven of their 14 league matches.
The IPL 2027 retention window is due to close on November 15. Franchises must submit their final list of retained and released players to the BCCI by this date ahead of the upcoming mini-auction.
