The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 player auction is scheduled to take place on December 16, 2026, at a five-star venue in Goa, Cricbuzz reported.

According to the report, the BCCI logistics team forwarded this information to franchises on Saturday (October 17) primarily to facilitate early travel and logistics bookings. A pre-auction briefing is also outlined for December 15, 2026.

“The IPL 2026 Player Auction will take place on December 16, 2026, at ITC Grand Goa and the auction briefing will be held on December 15, 2026," the BCCI WhatsApp notes.

While multiple franchises have acknowledged receiving the text communication, team owners and chief executives are still awaiting a formal email confirmation from the BCCI governing council.

This marks the return of the IPL auction to Indian soil after the previous three editions were staged overseas in Dubai, Jeddah, and Abu Dhabi.

The Indian team is scheduled to play Sri Lanka in an ODI in Bengaluru on the exact same day as the auction. It remains unclear if the conflicting match date will be altered.

Meanwhile, the IPL franchises must submit their final lists of retained and released players by November 15, 2026. Because it is a mini-auction, most squads are expected to remain largely intact.
