CSK are yet to announce a replacement for Hussey.
Five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have parted ways with their long-serving batting coach Michael Hussey, Cricbuzz reported on Friday (October 9).
The move is part of a sweeping, high-profile overhaul of the management setup orchestrated by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2027 season.
Former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan has been appointed as the new head coach, replacing Stephen Fleming, who stepped down following a historic 16-year tenure.
Bowling coach Eric Simons is also out of the coaching staff, with former India pacer Mohit Sharma being handed the responsibilities.
Additionally, the future of fielding coach James Foster remains uncertain as the franchise has reportedly put a decision regarding his contract extension on hold for the time being.
As for Hussey, CSK are yet to announce a replacement for the Australian legend, who served the franchise as batting coach for eight years after completing a six-year stint as a player.
CSK have missed out on the playoffs for three consecutive seasons (2024, 2025, and 2026). Therefore, the immediate challenge for the new coaching staff will be collaborating with the CSK management to orchestrate the franchise's retention strategy and blueprint ahead of the critical player auction scheduled for December.
According to reports, MS Dhoni, CSK's legendary captain and stalwart, is playing a decisive role in the coaching changes at the franchise.
Earlier, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan himself confirmed that Zaheer Khan’s name was suggested by Dhoni.
“It was not an administrative decision. The cricket committee decided this. It was MS’s suggestion. He spoke to captain Rutu (Ruturaj Gikwad) and both had a discussion with owner Rupa (Gurunath) and thus the decision was arrived at," Viswanathan had told Cricbuzz.
