The last IPL auction to be held in India was 2023 edition.
Dubai, Jeddah, and Abu Dhabi have hosted the IPL auction since then, but this time the BCCI and the IPL Governing Council (IPL GC) have opted to bring the auction back to India, with the event being a mini-auction.
However, the Cricbuzz report stated that the mega auction next year could again be held overseas.
The decision was made to appease the franchises, who expressed concerns about the operational and logistical difficulties of sending their delegations abroad for a mini-auction.
Their opinions were taken into consideration by BCCI officials during the Abu Dhabi auction last year. As a result, the GC made the decision to look into holding this year's auction in an Indian city.
The availability of lodging for the franchises and their delegates will determine the location, as is customary. The GC has considered that October through December is India's wedding season, and the selection of a city would be based on the availability of five-star hotels at that time. For a few nights, the BCCI needs more than 100 accommodations.
The report also had an update on the impact player rule as well. The IPL GC has left the decision open-ended, saying that another meeting will be held in a month, where a final decision on the rule will be taken.
The majority of franchises, as per the report, are against the rule but feel that the rule must stay for at least one more year. Some of the franchise officials stated that they had formed their squads keeping the rule in mind, and they view that any decision to dispense with it would be best left until next year.
