Delhi Capitals failed to qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs.
Although neither the team nor the two former Indian players have made any official announcements about new positions, their attendance at the Just Cricket Academy has further heightened rumors.
During the trials, Yuvraj—who has recently been connected to a transfer into the Delhi Capitals backroom setup—was positioned behind the umpire, closely monitoring and directing the batters., Ganguly participated in the proceedings, along with Amit Mishra, a new member of the DC coaching staff.
Their involvement gave weight to reports that the JSW-led phase of the franchise’s management will effect substantial changes in the coaching staff.
Under the arrangement between DC's co-owners, GMR Sports and JSW Sports, control of franchise operations alternates between the two groups in two-year cycles.
Yuvraj may become the batting coach, while Ganguly is expected to play a significant role as head coach or director of cricket. Two of India's most powerful white-ball players would be reunited in a new role under such an arrangement.
Ganguly was appointed JSW's director of cricket in 2024 and worked with Pretoria Capitals in the SA20, and has also played an active role with DC's women's team. He was previously the mentor of the DC franchise in 2019 before he became the BCCI president.
For Yuvraj Singh, it will be his first coaching role. The 2007 T20 World Cup winner and 2011 ODI World Cup Player of the Tournament is more involved in training India's next generation of batters, with Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma praising him for his guidance.
Yuvraj Singh has also worked closely with Rishabh Pant, who returned to Delhi Capitals in a trade after spending two seasons leading the Lucknow Super Giants. Ganguly and Yuvraj were also understood to have been involved in discussions around Pant's eventual return to DC.
The DC management is reportedly set to be overhauled after they missed the playoffs in IPL 2026. The existing setup of Venugopal Rao, Hemang Badani, Munaf Patel and Ian Bell is reportedly unlikely to continue into the next cycle.
The franchise has never won the IPL in 19 seasons, with their run to the 2020 final remaining their best result.
