Reportedly CSK have offered two players in trade plus cash to get Hardik Pandya from MI.
Even before the IPL 2026 season ends, discussions over Pandya's future have gained traction, even though no deal has been formally finalized.
Multiple reports have suggested that Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the biggest rivals of MI, have emerged as the front-runners as the next home of Hardik Pandya. Not only CSK, but there is no shortage of options for Pandya, given his skillset as a medium pacer and a big-hitting finisher.
Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals have also been understood to be considering the Hardik option.
Hardik Pandya had rejoined the MI franchise in IPL 2024 and replaced Rohit Sharma as captain in a huge controversial decision. However, MI only managed to qualify for the playoffs once in Pandya’s three-season captaincy tenure.
“Our post-season review is currently on, and we are looking into all aspects of the team. Contrary to reports, we are not engaged in conversations with regard to player trades; the same is only possible once the review is complete. A range of options and ideas are being evaluated, which require time; hence no decisions have been made,” a Mumbai Indians spokesperson told Sportstar on Saturday.
Sources have indicated that captaincy is not the only thing on the agenda in the review, as the MI franchise is evaluating its leadership group, coaching staff and overall cricket operations as it looks to rebuild a side that has failed to challenge consistently for the title in recent years.
Pandya's departure is certain, despite the increasing rumors. Although it has sparked rumors about his decision to leave the Mumbai Indians, it is not seen as a complete break from the franchise.
In the meantime, the trade market is still in its early phases, and the majority of teams are still reviewing their post-season strategies before making final decisions. As a result, several scenarios will probably continue to circulate across the league in the upcoming weeks.
MI is unlikely to head into IPL 2027 with the same core that has represented the franchise over the last three seasons.
