Goenka had stated that Pant will be counted amongst the most successful captains in IPL when he had joined LSG.
In the high-profile transaction, India spinner Kuldeep Yadav transferred to LSG for INR 13.5 crore, while Pant left Lucknow Super Giants to rejoin his former IPL team, Delhi Capitals, for INR 15 crore.
Fans started posting an old Goenka video from the 2025 IPL mega auction, where LSG had acquired Pant's talents for a record-breaking Rs 27 crore, shortly after the transaction was confirmed.
Goenka had presented an ambitious long-term plan centered around Pant as the franchise's face in a speech following the agreement.
"Ye 12-15 saal khelege. This is a journey ki 15 saal me 5 IPL title, 6 title kaise jeet rahe hai. Log abhi bolte hai Mumbai, Chennai - most successful, Mahi, Rohit - brilliant, undeniably brilliant. But mark my words, 10 saal baad bolege - Mahi, Rohit, Rishabh," Goenka had said.
The remark at the time expressed LSG's conviction that Pant will serve as the franchise's mainstay for over ten years. Nevertheless, the collaboration has abruptly ended after just two seasons.
Pant played for the Lucknow Super Giants from 2025 to 2026. He scored 581 runs and led the team in 28 games during that time, recording 10 victories and 18 losses for a win percentage of 35.71 percent.
Pant's emotional homecoming to the Delhi Capitals was made possible by both teams agreeing to a direct player swap ahead of the IPL 2027 season after a mixed two-year stint and changing team tactics.
