Arjun Kapoor had secured a court order to protect his personality and publicity rights.
This was reportedly after RR used a meme featuring a video of his to troll the Punjab Kings after their qualification in the IPL 2026 Playoff.
The allegations have gone widespread on social media, but Arjun Kapoor's defamation lawsuit against the Rajasthan Royals has not been officially confirmed. The franchise utilized the actor's image without his permission, which caused the social media post to go viral and cause uproar.
Rajasthan Royals have deleted the video already from their social media handles after facing severe backlash and concerns around personality rights. Neither Arjun Kapoor nor his team has released an official statement stating that a defamation case has been filed against the IPL franchise, despite widespread rumors of legal action.
Additionally, no verified reports indicate that the actor has directly addressed the Rajasthan Royals meme dispute before the Delhi High Court. Additionally, no public court filings related to the case have been reported.
In May this year, Arjun Kapoor secured an interim order from the Delhi High Court protecting his personality and publicity rights. The court prohibited the unauthorized use of the actor's name, picture, voice, and likeness, particularly in cases involving AI-generated deepfakes, modified content, false endorsements, and other deceptive digital material.
The court stated that, while celebrities are entitled to protection against defamatory use of their identities, ordinary satire and public opinion cannot be fully prohibited.
The Rajasthan Royals have removed the popular meme post, but the allegations of the formal defamation lawsuit are still unsubstantiated. This is the only known development in the matter.
