LSG finished the season near the bottom of the points table, with only four wins in 14 matches.
Invited to bat first, LSG racked up 196/6 in 20 overs. Josh Inglis was the top scorer with 44-ball 72, while Ayush Badoni (43 off 18) and Abdul Samad (37* off 20) made vital contributions.
Chasing a target of 197, Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 101 off 51 balls to take PBKS over the line with two overs to spare. The skipper stitched a match-defining 140-run partnership with Prabhsimran Singh, who smashed 69 off 39 to help the visitors’ cause.
With this outcome, LSG finished the season near the bottom of the points table, managing only four wins in their 14 league matches.
Speaking after the game, LSG skipper Rishabh Pant stated the team has to "bite the bullet" and accept the results without making excuses.
“Initial thoughts are - it's a tough one. Still have to bite the bullet regardless of anything. Gonna keep our head high. There has been a lot of learning regardless of good or bad. Definitely a tough season for us as a team for sure,” Pant said at the post-match presentation.
While Pant felt LSG’s total was competitive, he acknowledged the advantage of batting second on a good Ekana surface.
“Always you can get 5-10 runs more but I think there was enough on the total. But at the same time it's harder because in the second innings at Ekana the wicket gets better to bat on all the time. That's why everyone wants to field first,” he added.
Despite the dismal campaign, the captain reflected on the positives and singled out key performers from the squad.
“Want to look at the positives as a team. Josh has come in and played a brilliant knock. Mitch is not here - he has done really well for us. Bowling - Prince has had an amazing season. Last few games he's been here and there but he had a terrific season, got an Indian call. Mohsin coming back from injury. Definitely a lot of positives. Especially Shami bhai, the way he has kept that fast bowling unit together has been wonderful to see,” he remarked.
In the end, Rishabh Pant emphasized focusing on learning and rebuilding for the future. He expressed confidence in his team's ability to bounce back stronger next season.
“Sometimes idea without accountability is the harder thing to do. At the same time you gotta keep focussing on the right thing and be on the right path regardless of good and bad. You accept everything and move on from it. It's been a long season but at the same time, just keeping our head high and we promise to come back stronger next year regardless of anything,” he concluded.
