IPL 2026: “For last 14 years, they’ve had same curator,” Munaf Patel slams Delhi Capitals for failing to leverage home conditions

Delhi Capitals' IPL 2026 playoff fate is hanging by a fine thread.

Delhi Capitals’ (DC) IPL 2026 playoff fate is hanging by a fine thread. They have one league stage match remaining against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens on May 24, and a defeat would end their campaign straightaway.

Rooted in eighth place with 12 points from 13 matches, the team’s awful home record at the Arun Jaitley Stadium—where they lost five of seven games—fatally doomed their playoff hopes.

Ahead of the fixture against KKR, DC bowling coach Munaf Patel expressed deep frustration regarding their inability to capitalize on their home turf.

Drawing from his experience with Shane Warne and the Rajasthan Royals, Munaf stressed that tournament champions are built on impregnable home records, which has been fundamentally lacking for the Capitals.

“The only thing I understand is this: when Mumbai Indians have won five titles, Chennai Super Kings have won five, and Kolkata Knight Riders have won three, you simply cannot win a tournament without taking advantage of your home conditions," Munaf told Sportsnext.

“When I was in Rajasthan Royals in the first year, Shane Warne made one thing very clear during preparation, we might go out and lose away matches, but we cannot afford to lose at home," he stated.

“If you keep losing your home games, you can win matches here and there, but you will never win a tournament in your life," he added.

Munaf highlighted that Delhi Capitals have failed to leverage home conditions to their advantage despite retaining the same pitch curator for 14 years.

“Delhi has been playing here for 18 years. For the last 14 years, they’ve had the same curator. And if you look at the results, the worst home record belongs to Delhi Capitals."

“Despite having the same curator for 14 years, they haven’t been able to win a title in 18 years. If you calculate for all teams, the one that has benefited the least from home advantage is Delhi," Patel remarked.
