Arshdeep Singh's behavior on social media has been under severe criticism.
Arshdeep Singh, a pacer for the Punjab Kings and India, has been embroiled in a new controversy following a Snapchat conversation with a fan that sparked additional social media anger.
Due to his open vlogs and conversations in the dressing room, Arshdeep is one of the more well-liked young cricket players among fans. However, he has had a difficult few weeks away from the game.
The left-arm fast bowler is once again being scrutinized for his online behavior. This IPL season, he has already been criticized for comments made in viral videos.
Recently, Arshdeep Singh came under fire for his racially insensitive remark on Tilak Varma in a video he recorded. In the clip, Arshdeep panned the camera towards Tilak and said, “Oye Andhere, sunscreen lagaaya?” which roughly translates to, “Hey, dark one, did you apply sunscreen?”
He was severely criticized for his insensitive remark toward Tilak Varma’s skin color. Then, in the same video, Arshdeep then pointed towards Mumbai Indians batter Naman Dhir and said in Punjabi, “Aa dekh, aa hai Punjab da asli noor, te aa hai nakli,” which translates to, “Look, this is the real glow of Punjab, and this is fake.”
And screenshots of his argument with a fan have gone viral on social media. Amidst the backlash, several of the fans asked Arshdeep to stop using Punjab’s name in the IPL, signaling that his antics were bringing a bad reputation to the region.
Arshdeep’s reply on Snapchat left many users stunned.
“What have you done for Punjab, Singh Saab? People who still ask family for chips and cold drink money are now advising me on Punjab?” Arshdeep wrote in response.
“Nobody believed me. Everyone mocked and trolled me. Arshdeep should be banned this season and should be paid on a pro rata basis. The players today should be hit where it hurts the most. I am sure I would be trolled again,” Sivaramakrishnan posted on X.
A bowler for the Punjab Kings has come under fire for remarks he made regarding the appearance of another cricket player. Sai Sudharsan, a batter for the Gujarat Titans, was featured in another Snapchat video that went viral on social media.
In the clip, Arshdeep can be heard recording a video while pointing the camera towards Sai Sudharsan before saying, “Wait, let me clean my camera lens; it can’t capture Sai.” He then added, “Your lips can’t be seen in the video.”
