Former India cricketer R Ashwin highlighted a huge flaw in the DRS rule that he observed during the ongoing IPL 2026 match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) on May 14, 2026, in Dharamshala.

Mumbai Indians, captained by Jasprit Bumrah in this game, won the toss and chose to bowl first. PBKS got a good start as Priyansh Arya (22) and Prabhsimran Singh (57) took on the bowlers. Cooper Conolly made 21, but then MI came back in the game, until Azmatullah Omarzai (38), Vishnu Vinod (15*), and Xavier Bartlett (18*) took PBKS to 200/8 in 20 overs.

Ashwin's focus shifted to the last ball of the innings, when Jasprit Bumrah hit Vishnu Vinod on the pads, and the on-field umpire gave him out. Punjab was not given the leg-bye since the ball had already been declared dead, even if the ruling was later reversed upon review.

After Punjab was denied a run despite the decision being overturned on review, Ashwin became upset with the final-ball drama and demanded an immediate change to the DRS rule. Later, Ashwin voiced his displeasure with the rule on X.

"The wrong decision has cost Punjab a run; this rule needs to change ASAP! Just like how the “IMPACT SUB” is an IPL rule, the DRS reversal should also be brought into the IPL, even if the ICC delays it for some reason. #MIVPBKS #IPL," Ashwin posted on X.
