Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) suffered a crushing 82-run defeat at the hands of Gujarat Titans (GT) in Match 56 of the IPL 2026 season in Ahmedabad on Tuesday (May 12).

Chasing a target of 169, SRH were bowled out for just 86 in 14.5 overs, marking their lowest-ever all-out total in IPL history.

After the game, former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin offered a blunt critique of the SRH top-order's approach during chase.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin specifically targeted opener Abhishek Sharma for failing to adapt to a slower, challenging pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium

"Can Abhishek Sharma play the shot? Of course he can. But where did he go wrong? It's like driving; you can hit 100 or 200 mph on a highway, but if you drive like that in a traffic jam, someone is going to get hurt. Cricket is a game where conditions are king. I want to see Abhishek Sharma one run off that ball. Go to the other end. Build a partnership," Ashwin said.

He mentioned that players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are admired for reading conditions and planning their innings according to the demands of the pitch.

"Legends like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are celebrated because they read the conditions and adapt. They don't drive at the same speed on every road. In this match, SRH should have chased the total, but they failed because the top three didn't take responsibility," Ashwin added.

Despite the heavy loss, SRH skipper Pat Cummins remained confident in his team's batting order, highlighting that his top four players have all scored over 400 runs.

“Our batting order's been fantastic. So I don't think we need to read it too far into today. I think all four of our top four have over 400 runs. So, the guys are going really well. This happens in T20 cricket,” Cummins said at the post-match presentation.

Currently holding third spot in the team standings with 14 points from 12 outing, Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Chennai Super Kings and Royals Challengers Bengaluru in their remaining two league fixtures. They likely need at least one win to secure a place in the playoffs.
