This is the second time in IPL 2026 that Tim David has been penalized.
This came after Tim David was seen showing double middle fingers during the RCB v Mumbai Indians (MI) game of IPL 2026 on May 10, 2026.
RCB skipper Rajat Patidar won the toss and opted to bowl first. Naman Dhir top-scored with 47, while Tilak Varma struck 57 to guide the Mumbai Indians to 166/7 after a shaky start. A late flourish helped MI recover, but Bhuvneshwar Kumar starred with the ball, picking up 4/23.
In response, MI dismantled the RCB top order as well, with Virat Kohli falling for a golden duck. Krunal Pandya kept them in the game with a brilliant 73 off 46 balls. However, things got interesting when 15 runs were needed off the last over, and Romario Shepherd got out with RCB needing 9 of 3 balls.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar came out and hit the first ball he faced for six, and then Rasikh Dar, and he scampered for two runs of the final ball to give RCB a close 2-wicket win. This loss eliminated MI from the race for the playoffs.
After the game, something odd was seen as RCB’s Tim David, who was dismissed for a golden duck, was seen showing double middle fingers from the dugout. His gesture was supposedly towards the MI team.
The BCCI and IPL have taken note of Tim David’s actions and have fined him 30% of his match fees, and two demerit points were added to his record.
“Tim David, All-rounder, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has been fined 30% of his applicable match fee and have also accumulated two demerit points for breaching Level 1 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team officials.
Tim was found to have breached Article 2.6 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which relates to “using a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting.” Tim admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction imposed by Match Referee, Amit Sharma,” IPL stated on its website.
The BCCI has penalized David twice this season for violating the IPL Code of Conduct. The earlier incident also happened at the Wankhede Stadium during the match against Mumbai.
For "disobeying an umpire's instruction" during the IPL match, he was given one demerit point and fined twenty-five percent of his match fee. David was convicted of violating Level 1 of the IPL's player and team official code of conduct.
