Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Urvil Patel's breathtaking knock against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) caught everyone’s attention on Sunday (May 10). Even the legendary Virat Kohli paused his warm-up routine and remained glued to the TV screen as Urvil smashed the joint-fastest fifty in IPL history.

Chasing 204, CSK lost opener Sanju Samson for 14-ball 28, which led to Urvil’s arrival in the middle. The youngster walked launched a brutal assault on the LSG bowlers right from the word go.

Urvil hammered Avesh Khan for three successive sixes in the fifth over, and followed it up with three more maximums against Digvesh Rathi in the sixth over. He notched up his fifty in the seventh over, reaching the milestone in just 13 balls – equalling Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record for the joint-fastest IPL half-century.

The whirlwind knock came right before RCB’s home fixture against MI at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur.

Watching from the sidelines while hydrating, Kohli was engrossed by Urvil’s massive sixes. What was supposed to be a brief pause turned into an extended viewing session for the RCB stalwart, who enjoyed the innings on a television screen in the dugout.

Here’s the video:

Urvil Patel went on to score 65 off 23 balls with the help of 2 fours and 8 sixes before being removed by Shahbaz Ahmed. His dismissal triggered a mini-collapse as Ruturaj Gaikwad (42 off 28), Dewald Brevis (10), and Kartik Sharma (20) got out in quick succession.

However, Prashant Veer (18*) and Shivam Dube (15*) held their nerves to seal the win for CSK with five wickets in hand and four balls to spare.
