Rajasthan Royals were outclassed by Gujarat Titans in Jaipur.
After being sent in to bat, GT racked up a massive 229/4 on the board, thanks to Shubman Gill’s 84 off 44 balls. Gill’s opening partner Sai Sudharsan (55 off 36) also slammed a half-century, while Washington Sundar scored 20-ball 37.
In reply, the Royals innings folded for 152 in 16.3 overs as GT leg-spinner Rashid Khan wreaked havoc with the ball, returning with the figures of 4/33 in four overs.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Jaiswal said RR were focused on restricting boundaries and maintaining disciplined bowling, but praised the Titans batters for executing their shots well and putting pressure on the bowlers.
"I think we were just thinking to bowl in good areas, and they were batting pretty well. So we were just thinking how we can cut down the boundaries or big shots. So I think it was pretty good from them," Jaiswal stated.
RR pace spearhead Jofra Archer had a tough outing with the ball as he leaked 46 runs in three overs and went wicketless.
However, Jaiswal threw his weight behind Archer, saying that off-days are part of cricket and expressed confidence that the lanky fast bowler will bounce back strongly.
“No, it’s cricket (talking about Archer being off the radar today). We all know that there are some days where you are in, there are some days where you cannot bowl how you want to. But he’s been doing so well for us. So I think he’ll be coming back very strongly,” he remarked.
Reflecting on the decision to drop left-arm pacer Nandre Burger, Jaiswal said it was not difficult as the focus was on selecting bowlers who could provide good powerplay overs.
“No, I actually didn’t think that much (whether leaving out Burger was a tough decision). I had a simple plan, who is my bowler and who can give me some good overs in the powerplay,” he said.
Jaiswal added that the team will review their performance, focus on improvements, and take lessons forward for the next match.
“So nothing much from my end. Nothing much (What went wrong tonight?). I think we are going to look what we can do better and just look for the next game, what we can do and learn from this game,” he concluded.
