Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Mohsin Khan has thanked and revealed how Mohammad Shami helped him get confidence back after he returned from surgery. He nearly lost his hand in 2022 due to a shoulder injury. His calf ailment kept him out of action last year, making even simple movement difficult.

On the other hand, Mohammad Shami underwent ankle surgery and spent more than 18 months out of the game post the ICC World Cup 2023. Although he hasn't returned to the India Blues, Shami participated in the 2025 Champions Trophy and is aware of how challenging it can be to regain momentum.

Mohsin was retained by the LSG franchise despite his injuries, and he repaid in kind by taking a fifer for the team in the ongoing IPL 2026 season. Mohsin returned figures of 5 for 23 against Kolkata Knight Riders after bowling a maiden and dismissing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi cheaply against Rajasthan Royals.

Much of the credit goes to his mentor and "big brother," Mohammed Shami, who helped him in the run-up to the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL).

It had been almost 14-15 months since the operation. Shami bhai helped me a lot there. I would use all his equipment. He supported me a lot. People expect to see me the way I was before the surgery, so that’s my goal,” Mohsin said in a video shared by LSG.

While the batting has been poor for the LSG franchise, their bowling has been amazing. Shami and Mohsin have combined to pick 16 wickets in the IPL, and Prince Yadav has 13 wickets to his name in IPL 2026.

Shami revealed his own struggles in recovery after an ankle injury, and he shared the same with Mohsin Khan and how it helped the young pacer gain confidence in his own road to recovery.

When he came, it was a very difficult time. He was so afraid that he couldn't even walk or run. It does feel a little uncomfortable at first. I asked him, ‘What are you afraid of?’ He said, ‘I just got my crutches removed, so I am not getting the confidence to jog comfortably. So, I spoke to the doctors and said, ‘Don’t worry. Even if something little happens, you’ll get to know. As long as he’s here, let him be. Within 3-4 days, he started catching and jogging. Told him to stop whenever he feels even the slightest discomfort. But till that happens, you keep at it. Otherwise, we’ll go back by 5-6 months,” said Shami.
