Phil Salt had sustained the injury during RCB's match against DC on April 18.
The development means Salt’s compatriot Jacob Bethell will continue to bat at the top of the order for RCB.
While RCB have not officially disclosed the nature of the injury, the report suggests that Salt sustained damage to a finger on his left hand while attempting a diving stop near the deep backward square leg boundary during the second innings of their home defeat to Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 18.
Prior to the injury, Salt was in strong form with 202 runs in six innings at an impressive strike rate of 168.33 with two half-centuries, providing RCB with aggressive starts.
The report further stated that both Salt and RCB remain optimistic the injury will heal in time for him to return to India as the franchise defends its first-ever IPL title won last season.
The timing of the injury is particularly unfortunate for Salt, who has previously praised the team environment under director of cricket Mo Bobat, head coach Andy Flower, and batting mentor Dinesh Karthik. He had rediscovered form in the IPL after a subdued T20 World Cup campaign with England.
The timing of this injury is frustrating for Phil Salt as he rediscovered his batting form after an underwhelming T20 World Cup 2026 campaign. He had earlier praised the team environment under director of cricket Mo Bobat, head coach Andy Flower, and batting mentor Dinesh Karthik.
The reigning IPL champions, led by Rajat Patidar, are currently on a six-day break following a defeat to the Gujarat Titans. Several players are spending this time in the Maldives before their upcoming match against the Lucknow Super Giants on May 7.
