GT are now fifth on the IPL 2026 points table with 5 wins from 9 games and 10 points.
GT dismissed Jacob Bethell early, while Virat Kohli (28) and Devdutt Padikkal (40) did some damage control. GT faced a difficult second over as RCB's top batter Virat Kohli came out firing, slamming Kagiso Rabada for five consecutive boundaries to gain control and stamp authority on the game.
Rabada then turned things around in his very next over by dismissing Virat Kohli, helping restore balance and lift the team’s intensity on the field. RCB never recovered from regular wicket losses and managed only 155 runs on the board.
In response, Shubman Gill took the attack to the RCB bowlers, scoring 43 runs in 18 balls, while Jos Buttler made 39 in 19 balls. But Bhuvneshwar Kumar rattled the GT batting with three wickets, and then Romario Shepherd hurt the middle order.
It was only due to Rahul Tewatia’s 27* that GT managed to win the game by 4 wickets in the 16th over.
After the match, GT captain Shubman Gill talked about the match, his team’s performance, and how they came back after the initial attack by Kohli.
"Feels very satisfying, you know, on a wicket like this, restricting a team like them under 160 was a tremendous job by the bowlers. I think our fielding was one of the things; it's something I think at phases we haven't fielded that well in the game. And I think today was one of those days everyone came together,” Shubman Gill said during the post-match presentation.
Gill cited a defining early phase in the play that could have turned the momentum the opposite direction. He specifically referred to Kohli's furious start, which put GT under immediate pressure with a rush of attacking strokes, forcing the Titans to take an early defeat and swiftly rebound.
“The energy in the field was very, very nice, especially after the second over; Virat bhai hit us for some runs, and how we all came back together. That was very crucial for us,” Gill added.
Gill also talked about his own batting and whether there was a conscious effort to attack the RCB bowling.
“Honestly, not really. I was just feeling like I was in the zone, and on the first ball, I got a bit lucky. And the second one, I got in my zone, so I was like, okay, maybe today's my day, you know. I was feeling really well. I was feeling confident. So. I was like, I want to take the bowlers on,” Gill stated.
GT will now face the Punjab Kings in Ahmedabad on May 3 and would like to continue their winning ways.
