PBKS chased down the herculean target of 265 with seven deliveries to spare.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) pulled off the highest successful chase in IPL history to beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by six wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday (April 25).
Opting to bat first, DC racked up a mammoth 264/2 on the board. KL Rahul stole with the show with a mind-boggling 152* off 67 balls, including 11 fours and four sixes, while Nitish Rana smashed 91 off 44 balls. The duo stitched a 220-run partnership off 95 balls for the second wicket.
In reply, PBKS overhauled the target with seven deliveries to spare. Prabhsimran Singh (76 off 26) and Priyansh Arya (43 off 17) launched a brutal assault on the DC bowlers right from the outset, adding 126 runs for the opening wicket in just 6.5 overs.
While the visitors lost Prabhsimran, Priyansh and Cooper Connolly (17 off 10) in quick succession, skipper Shreyas Iyer once again rose to the occasion. Iyer put on a 56-run stand with Nehal Wadhera (25 off 15) and followed it up with an unbeaten 64-run partnership with Shashank Singh (19* off 10) to seal the win for PBKS.
Shreyas returned with 71 not out off 36 balls as Punjab Kings continued their unbeaten run in the tournament. It was their fifth win in six matches this season.
Cricket fraternity showered rich praise on Shreyas Iyer and the PBKS openers for scripting a historic win against DC.
