MI suffered their worst defeat in IPL by 103 runs at the hands of CSK.
Chennai was put into bat first by MI, and their innings was carried by Sanju Samson, who made 101* in 54 balls with 10 fours and 6 sixes. Ruturaj Gaikwad made 22, and Dewald Brevis made 21 as CSK posted 207/6 thanks to Samson’s second century of this IPL.
In response, the CSK bowlers annihilated the MI batting lineup, with only Suryakumar Yadav (35) and Tilak Varma (37) managing to withstand the onslaught. Akeal Hosein took 4/17, while Noor Ahmad took 2 wickets as MI was bowled out for 104 runs and CSK won the game by 103 runs.
This meant that MI have only 2 wins from their 7 games in the IPL 2026, and they are placed at number 8 on the points table. This also means MI will have to work doubly hard to have a chance of qualifying for the playoffs.
However, the most significant incident happened when MI owner Akash Ambani, who usually sits near the boundary on a huge lounge sofa, walked out of the Wankhede Stadium, disappointed by the performance of the MI team.
He also signaled the fans to leave as well, as MI was heading towards a record defeat at the hands of CSK. On his way out, he also gave a curt look to the MI dugout and kept asking the fans to leave.
