Tilak Varma and Ashwani Kumar were the standout performers for MI.
Kagiso Rabada gave GT the greatest start, dismissing Quinton de Kock (13), Danish Malewar (2), and Suryakumar Yadav (15) with MI's score at 44 runs in 6 overs. But then Naman Dhir (45) and Tilak Varma stabilized the ship before Dhir was fired by Prasidh Krishna.
Varma was initially slow off the blocks but finished with 101* in 45 balls, with eight fours and seven sixes, as he took MI to a respectable 199/5 in 20 overs. This was Tilak’s first IPL century, and he equaled the record for fastest IPL ton by an MI batter, Sanath Jayasuriya, who had also hit an IPL ton in 45 balls.
Jasprit Bumrah, after going wicketless for 5 games, picked his first wicket as he dismissed Sai Sudharsan for a golden duck. GT lost wickets at an alarming rate, with Shubman Gill (14), Washington Sundar (26), and Shahrukh Khan (17) being the chief run-getters.
GT was bowled out for 100 runs as Ashwani Kumar took 4/24, while Allah Ghazanfar and Mitchell Santner took two wickets apiece as MI won the game by 99 runs.
The cricket fraternity was all praises for the brilliant effort of the MI team with the ball and lauded them on social media.
