Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Ayush Mhatre is set to miss three weeks of action if reports are to be believed. This is after Mhatre suffered a torn hamstring in CSK's recent IPL 2026 game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
The 18-year-old, who has been playing brilliantly, will have scans on Monday when he gets to Mumbai, where the CSK will play their next game against MI on Thursday.
Mhatre was on 30 off 12 deliveries when he hurt his hamstring while running a double. Mhatre played the game as an impact player during the chase of 195. Tommy Simsek, the team's physiotherapist, saw to his apparent discomfort right away.
The Indian Express reported that Mhatre's injury isn't as serious as anticipated because the batter is not now in any pain. However, the true nature of the damage will be determined only on Monday when he has a scan done. Mhatre's ability to walk without pain signals that he may return later in the competition.
Mhatre continued to bat after being attended to by the physio, but his innings was cut short when he was ejected. CSK's batting coach, Mike Hussey, confirmed that Mhatre had injured his hamstring.
“Obviously, a hamstring tear. I don’t know how bad it is. I’m sure we’ll scan him probably tomorrow or the next day. It looks pretty bad, unfortunately. And he’s going to be a big, big loss because he’s been in really nice touch for us,” Hussey said in the post-match press conference.
Ayush Mhatre had been one of the brightest stars for CSK in their otherwise poor run in the ongoing IPL 2026. He had scored 201 runs in 6 games with two fifties and a strike rate of 177.87.
