Cummins is scheduled to touch down India on April 17.
Pat Cummins has received medical clearance from Cricket Australia to rejoin Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for the ongoing IPL 2026 season after a successful recovery from a back injury.
Fresh scans have confirmed that the lumbar stress injury, which has sidelined Cummins for a considerable period, has fully recovered. The regular SRH skipper is scheduled to fly back to India on Friday (April 17), and rejoin his teammates.
"Fresh scans on his back have cleared the way for Pat Cummins to return to action at the IPL. Cummins has been given the all-clear to resume bowling without restrictions following fresh scans on his back in Sydney, paving the way for his return to action at the IPL," a report on the Cricket Australia website mentioned.
"The Aussie pace spearhead will now return to India on Friday to link up with his Australia teammate Travis Head at the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise for the remainder of this year's IPL. Cummins' latest set of scans on Wednesday confirmed the back stress issue that limited him to a single match of professional cricket since last August has now resolved," the report added.
Despite linking up with the SRH squad, Cummins will not be available for the home games against Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals on April 18 and April 21, respectively. He aiming to return to the playing XI on April 25 against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur.
"While Sunrisers will play home matches against Chennai Super Kings this weekend and against the Delhi Capitals next Wednesday, Cummins' cautious approach to returning has him targeting the April 25 match against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur for his return to the playing XI," the CA report stated.
Pat Cummins is expected to resume captaincy of Sunrisers Hyderabad, taking over from interim skipper Ishan Kishan, who has led the side to two wins in five matches so far, occupying fourth spot in the team standings.
Meanwhile, Chennai Super King (CSK) have suffered a major blow, with their key pacer Khaleel Ahmed being ruled out of the remainder of the IPL due to a quadriceps injury.
Khaleel, who has featured in all of CSK’s five games thus far, experienced pain in his right hip during the previous outing against KKR on April 14.
"Khaleel Ahmed has been ruled out of IPL 2026 after sustaining a right quadricep injury in the game against KKR. Wishing Khaleel a speedy recovery," CSK said in a statement.
CSK currently sit it in the lower half of the IPL 2026 table, specifically eighth, with 4 points from 5 matches.
