RCB was asked to bat first by MI captain Hardik Pandya, who won the toss.
Match 20 of the IPL 2026 saw heavyweights Mumbai Indians (MI) hosting Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Mumbai on April 12, 2026. MI captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to chase.
MI made two changes as Mayank Markande and Mitchell Santner replaced Deepak Chahar and Allah Ghanzanfar, while RCB made one change as Jacob Duffy replaced Josh Hazlewood in the playing XI.
Phil Salt took on the MI bowlers and slammed 78 in 36 balls with 6 fours and 6 sixes to his name. He added 120 runs for the first wicket inside 11 overs, as Virat Kohli was struggling to put bat on ball.
Rajat Patidar came to bat at no. 3 and began attacking the MI bowlers from the get-go. He got to his 50 in 17 balls with 4 fours and 5 sixes to his name. Virat Kohli completed his 50 in 37 balls with 5 fours and 1 six and didn’t celebrate as he seemed under pressure to match his RCB captain.
Kohli tried to hit Hardik Pandya for a six in the 15th over but could only manage to put the ball in the hands of the long-on fielder. Kohli was dismissed for 38-ball 50 and was not happy. As he walked into the RCB dugout, he threw his gloves and his helmet in frustration.
