GT will next face RR in Ahmedabad on April 4.
Asked to bat first, GT managed 162/6 in 20 overs, with Jos Buttler (38) and Shubman Gill (39) being the main scorers. In response, though PBKS wickets fell, debutant Cooper Connolly made 72* to lead the team to a 3-wicket win.
Despite the setback, Gujarat Titans batting coach Matthew Hayden received a lot of praise for a heartfelt gesture towards the ground staff.
In a video posted by GT on X, Hayden was seen picking up garbage and assisting ground staff in keeping the dugout area tidy. The former Australian great also hugged one of the ground staff members to acknowledge their efforts and hard work.
"I think these grounds are an amazing place to be, and I don't know, it's just a respect thing. It's about respecting the little area, and that's what we do here at Gujarat Titans,” Hayden stated.
In retrospect, Gill's team managed just 162 for 6 despite having a strong batting lineup that included Glenn Phillips, Sai Sudharsan, and Jos Buttler. Later on, the captain acknowledged that a score of between 210 and 220 might be reached on that wicket.
"It looked like a 210-220 wicket. We thought 175 would be a good score, but we kept losing wickets and didn't score much in the last five overs. Once the ball got older, it was difficult to hit it down the ground," Gill stated at the post-match conversation.
