Dhoni has defied retirement speculation and injury issues to continue his IPL journey.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have suffered a major setback ahead of the IPL 2026 as their former captain MS Dhoni has been ruled out of the tournament for the first two weeks.
Taking to social media, the franchise confirmed that Dhoni will miss the initial matches as he is currently undergoing rehab for a calf strain.
“MS Dhoni is currently undergoing rehabilitation for a calf strain. As a result, he is likely to miss the first two weeks of TATA IPL 2026. Get well soon, Thala!” CSK’s statement read.
Since CSK's title win in 2023, MS Dhoni has defied retirement speculation and injury issues to continue his IPL journey. Last year, the 44-year-old played all 14 league matches and also returned to the leadership role after regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out midway through the tournament due to injury.
However, Dhoni failed to turn CSK’s fortunes around as the five-time champions became the first team to be knocked out of the playoffs race and finished last in the points table for the first time ever.
Despite age, Dhoni continues to be the central figure of fan enthusiasm for CSK, with his presence ensuring packed stadiums and immense media attention.
Chennai Super Kings will begin their campaign against the Rajasthan Royals on March 30 in Guwahati.
