The IPL 2026 likely to begin on March 28 or 29 instead of March 26.
The governing council decided to reveal the Season 19 fixtures in two stages, with the first set probably coming later this week, during their online meeting on Monday.
Later this week, the first round of fixtures, which will span roughly the first 13 to 14 days, will probably be revealed.
According to the Cricbuzz report, M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru would host IPL 2026’s opening match. The arena will host five home games for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the team announced on Tuesday.
The opening game is traditionally hosted by the reigning champions, and it looks like this will continue. The opponents of RCB have not yet been decided.
The start of the season, however, may be delayed by a few days, with March 28 or 29 surfacing as potential dates. As previously stated, the final will take place on May 31.
BCCI interim CEO and IPL COO Hemang Amin recently informed franchisees that practice session guidelines will be released the following week. No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for foreign players would be distributed collectively in the upcoming days, franchises were also told.
The franchises were also told that the fixtures were being postponed till the Election Commission announced the dates of the polls in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Assam. Additionally, it was stated that information on the pre-tournament captains' meeting would be shared by the following week.
The announcement date of the State Assembly election schedule is still unclear. The BCCI has chosen to issue the fixtures in two stages, as it has done in prior election years, due to the short notice before the anticipated start of the season. The first 13–14 days of the 2026 Indian Premier League are anticipated to be covered.
